The World's Finest Olive Oil
Crete produces more olive oil per capita than any other region on Earth — and the best of it, from the Koroneiki olive variety grown in the Messara Plain and around the Psiloritis massif, is as complex and nuanced as the finest Burgundy wine. FFGR Greece arranges exclusive access to the estates responsible for this liquid gold.
The Estate Experience
Your FFGR chauffeur drives you from Heraklion into the interior — through Archanes, across the Messara Plain, to a family estate that has been pressing oil from these trees for generations. A guided walk through the olive groves with the estate owner. A tasting of six to eight oils at different stages of harvest and pressing, presented with local bread, wild herbs, and aged myzithra cheese.
Estate Lunch
Lunch is prepared by the estate family: slow-cooked lamb with wild greens, Cretan dakos with fresh tomato and mizithra, honey from the estate's own hives. The estate olive oil, of course, throughout. Return to Heraklion in the late afternoon.
