The Wines Greece Hasn't Told the World About
Greek wine — dismissed for decades, rediscovered spectacularly in the last fifteen years — now rivals the finest Burgundy and Barolo on the international stage. Agiorgitiko from Nemea (Peloponnese) and Xinomavro from Naoussa (Central Macedonia) are the two appellations driving this revolution. FFGR Greece takes you inside both.
The Nemea Day Programme
Departure from Athens in a Rolls-Royce Cullinan. The drive south through Corinthia takes 90 minutes. Visits to three estates — Skouras, Palivou, Gaia — with cellar tours and barrel tastings presented by the winemakers themselves. Lunch at a traditional taverna in Ancient Nemea, within sight of the Temple of Zeus.
The Naoussa Programme
Based from Thessaloniki. The Boutari estate in Naoussa has been producing Xinomavro since 1879. Add Thymiopoulos and Kir-Yianni for a comprehensive tasting of the appellation's full range. Return via the Byzantine city of Veroia for dinner.
